Car title and registration question from Missouri – Is it the dealer's responsibility to clear a title?
I am at wits end. I am seriously about to have a breakdown. The mileage has been recorded incorrectly two times on my car title which has sent up red flags at the DMV even though I have legal documents correcting the errors. I have to get an affidavit from a previous finance company that repossessed the car saying that the lien was settled by the repo and an affidavit verifying the mileage at the time of repo. The finance
company doesn’t want to talk to me because I’m not actually one of their customers or the dealer. They say they know nothing about it and that I shouldn’t be the one calling anyway, but without it I can’t drive!!
I am so mad. I have been told several times that it’s the dealership’s responsibility to do this. The dealership is in Tennessee and say it isn’t required in their state (MO DMV says its a federal law) and haven’t been much help. They told me nothing about this problem before I bought the car. Should I get a lawyer? It is legally their responsibility?

They should try to help you, but if they gave you a clear title in Tennessee and your having trouble getting a title in Missouri. Then beyond them getting any paper work you may need. Its probably up to you. Now if they didn’t give you a clear title in Tennessee that’s a different story.
