Howdy to all my northeastern United States American bretheren. I want you to do me a favor, please. I just visited New York and New Jersey. I’m a red stater, and I visited two blue states. I have to admit, I think blue state and red states have the complete wrong ideas about each other.
While in New Jersey I saw more huge Americans flags flying than I did in the town I live in. In New York, the Stock Exchange has a HUGE American flag hung on the entrance. On numerous expressways, there were flags and pictures of soldiers and "Welcome Home from Iraq" banners flying. Never, have I felt so much patriotism than I did in those two states, because New York and New Jersey were the two most affected states on 9/11 when it came to the shock, disbelief, and loss of friends.
So, my friends, please, express yourselves here. I now understand better, we may not agree on policy. But we’re all Americans, and I want you all to take a moment to remind everyone of that fact, here. Thank you.
Mind you, I’m still critical of the liberals in government. But, I’m trying to change my opinion of normal, everyday citizens who consider themselves liberals, cause my visit to NY and NJ did open my eyes more. ^_^
I rarely listen to talk radio, I do believe the media does paint people into extremes, as do politicians. I remember after the ’04 elections, a female democrat comparing red states and blue state to states that were slave states in American history, and a pundit on CNN calling the music playing a North Carolina senator’s victory party "hee-haw music". I think there’s money to be made by painting both sides as extreme, when in all actuality, both sides want whats best for America, but have different approaches.
Nancy G, I can’t help that the dems in Congress fold faster than a house of cards. I just think they do what they do in the hopes of failure. Just my opinion.
