Chicago Cubs Baseball Tickets Available

One of two Major League franchises in the Windy City, the Chicago Cubs are the reigning back-to-back champions of the National League Central Division. Along with the Atlanta Braves, ?The Cubbies,? as the team is popularly known, are the only remaining charter members of the NL.

The team last won a title in 1908, making its 100-year championship drought one of the longest of any major North American pro sports franchises. The team plays its home games at Wrigley Field, the Cubs? home since 1916, located at Chicago?s north side Lakeview community. The club is currently handled by manager Lou Piniella, with Jim Hendry as general manager and Sam Zell the owner following his purchase of the club?s parent organization, the Tribune Company. Zell, however, has put the club on the auction block.

Important moments and accomplishments
In its long history in the Majors, the Cubs? golden years could be considered the period from 1902 to 1920 when the club established a dynasty. In 1906, the Cubs won a staggering 116 games out of 154, for a .753 winning percentage. It then moved on to win back-to-back World Series titles in 1907 and 1908.

The succeeding decades saw the Cubs remaining strong contenders, posting winning records and notching NL pennants in 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938 and 1945. The second half of the century had the Cubs being competitive still while at the same time producing legends of the game like Ernie Banks, Ryne Sandberg and Sammy Sosa.

The new millennium proved more tough for the Cubs as they struggled producing winning seasons. But come 2007, the Cubs were infused new life following a ?disastrous?? 2006 that saw them win just 66 games. The club regrouped and signed left-fielder Alfonso Soriano to a lucrative contract and Piniella came on board to replace Dusty Baker as manager.

The Cubs completed a turnaround in 2007, topping the NL Central with a record of 85-77, and faced the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series, eventually losing to the D-Backs via a three-game sweep.
In 2008, the Cubs took off from where they left in 2007 as they successfully defended their National League Central title with a record of 97-65. This marked the first time that The Cubbies made the postseason in consecutive years since 1906-1908. The year also proved momentous as it saw the team win its 10,000th game and laid witness to the first no-hitter by a Cubs player in 36 years when Carlos Zembrano achieved the feat in September against the Houston Astros. The Cubs dominated the 2008 All-Star Game as well, with a franchise-record seven representatives in the midseason classic at Yankee Stadium, including three starters — Soriano, rookie catcher Geovany Soto, and Japanese Kosuke Fukudome. The Cubs then faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS where they bowed to the latter in three games.

Chicago Cubs recent news

Despite all the negotiations over finding a new owner for the storied club, the team is dead set on improving. To sustain the momentum the Cubs have built in the last two seasons, the club extended the contract of GM Hendry to another four years. Since taking the GM post in 2002, Hendry has gotten his team to three postseason appearances. He has vowed to continue working to help the Cubs get back to the World Series and eventually winning it all again.
The Cubs also picked up the -million option on righthander hurler Rich Harden as well as preparing for talks with Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood, both free agents, to further shore up their pitching roster.

While the 100-year-old title drought has yet to be broken by the Cubs, their back-to-back NL Central titles in the last two years bode well for the organization and its fans. With the progress they have made, it could only be a matter of time before the championship returns to the North side of Chicago.

Colorado Rockies Baseball Tickets Available

Based in Denver, Colorado?the Colorado Rockies are a Major League Baseball established in 1993. They play in the West Division of the National League. The team is named after the Rocky Mountains, the mountain ranges that pass through Colorado, just west of Denver. Their home games are played at Coors Field in downtown Denver. In 2007, the Rockies won the National League pennant for the first time in franchise history.

Important moment and accomplishments:

In 1990, Denver voters approved a 0.1 percent sales tax to help finance a new baseball stadium. This happened after many previous failed attempts to bring the Major League Baseball to Colorado. The action was through the efforts Colorado Baseball Commission led by banking executive Larry Varnell. There was also an advisory committee frmed in 1990 by then-Governor of Colorado Roy Romer to recruit an ownership group.

On July 5, 1991, Denver along with Miami, Florida, was approved as the sites for two expansion teams of the National League that will begin to play in 1993.

On April 5, 1993, the first ever game in Rockies history was played against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. David Nied, the Rockies’ first pick in the expansion draft, was the starting pitcher. The Rockies lost, 3-0. Four days later, the franchise played their first home game at Mile High Stadium. It was also the first their time to win in franchise history, 11-4, over the Montreal Expos.

Just like any expansion team, the Rockies struggled in their first year but the team was able to finish season with 67 wins to set a record for a National League expansion franchise.

On April 4, 1999, the Rockies made history as they played their Opening Day game at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico against the defending National League champion San Diego Padres This marks the first time Major League Baseball opened the regular season outside the United States or Canada. The Rockies beat the Padres, 8?2, in front of a crowd of 27,104 people.

Pitchers in the current roster:

Colorado Rockies recent news:

After trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres for most of 2007 Major League Baseball season, the Rockies bounced back with a steady series of wins, eliminating the Dodgers from playoff contentions in the process. The Rockies finished the regular season with a 90-73 mark, a franchise record. They were tied with the Padres for the National League wild card spot in the playoffs. On October 1, the two teams played a wild card tie-breaker game at Coors Field to determine the wild card. With the score tied at 6-6, the Padres got two runs off of a Scott Hairston home run. The Rockies came back in the bottom of the 13th by scoring three runs off of closer Trevor Hoffman to win 9?8. The Rockies? victory came with the fifth greatest regular season comeback in Major League Baseball history.

The Rockies ended up the 2008 season finishing third place in the National League West with a record of 74-88.

We will see more of Colorado Rockies? exciting games as they take on more challenges and set more records in the next season.

Houston Astros Baseball Tickets Available

Houston Astros Baseball Tickets Available

The Houston Astros are members of Major League?s National League Central Division. The club joined the MLB at the same time as the New York Mets in 1962.

The Astros were known then as the Colt .45s, a name that came about after a “name the team” contest was held. The club became the Astros three years later in 1965. Current Astros owner is Drayton McLane, Jr. with Cecil Cooper the manager of the club and Ed Wade the general manager. The team calls the Minute Maid Park as its home field.
Important moments and accomplishments
The Astros were more popularly known early in their existence for their home field, the Astrodome. Fondly called the ?Eighth Wonder of the World? at the time, the Astrodome was an indoor ball park envisioned by former Houston owner Judge Roy Hofheinz. Many attributed the Astrodome, and its artificial turf known as the “Astro Turf” since grass wouldn?t grow inside the dome, as changing the way how baseball was watched by the entire league since it was erected in the 1960s.

Eventually, the Astros became known for their on-field play, in particular in the 1980s, when they experienced more team success, with the help of future Hall-of-Famers Nolan Ryan and Joe Morgan who both infused much-needed leadership to the team. During the decade, Houston barged into the play-offs for the first time and won the NL West title by edging the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Astros finished with a 93-77 record that year. The club, however, lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship Series but not after putting a tough fight. To date, the Astros-Phillies series of 1980 is considered one of the best postseason matchups in baseball history. The Astros followed this up with postseason appearances in 1981 and 1986.

The 1990s were also memorable for the Houston franchise as this was the time many changes happened for the team. The Astros by this time were bannered by the likes of Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio. New owner McLane took over the team in 1993 and along with his arrival came more success as the Astros won consecutive division titles in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

At the turn of the new millennium, the Astros move out of the Astrodome and settled to its new and current stadium, which was known then as Enron Field. The ballpark features a retractable roof which many believe is very functional for a place like Houston.

But the single biggest season for the Astros came in 2005 when they finally went over the hump and made their way to their first-ever World Series. Despite starting the season poorly, going 15 games below .500 by late May that year, Houston fashioned out an amazing winning run and went 42-17 thereafter to take the lead for the wild-card. They eventually won a wild-card berth on the final day of the regular season. In the National League Division Series the Astros defeated the Atlanta Braves in four games. Houston then beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS in seven games, avenging their loss to the Cards in the 2004 NLCS, to win their first-ever pennant. The Astros met the Chicago White Sox in the World Series. But Houston fell short as they were swept by the White Sox 4-0.

Not only are they one of the most successful teams of the decade, having won two World Series Championships in the last four years (for a total of seven as a franchise), they are also one of the teams most steeped in history.

The Red Sox have been in existence since 1901, far longer than any fan can remember. The team was there from the beginning of the league, being one of the eight charter franchises. During those early years, they were the dominant power in baseball. They took the first World Series in 1903 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and again four more times before 1919. However, after that came the longest drought in league history. Oh yes they came close many times, but only in 2004, more than 80 years after their last win did they again recapture the World Series Championships. And of course, they did it again last 2007 and even today figure to be one of the top contenders.

Boston Red Sox Gifts
The enormity of the Red Sox fan base is such that you would certainly easily find someone you know who is a fan of the team to some degree. This enormous fan base has given rise to the manufacturing of many gift items targeted at these fans. Little wonder then that if you do know a Red Sox fan, it’s bound to be quite easy to find a gift item for him or for her. All you have to do is click on an item online and you’re done.

However, for more serious fans, there are high value minted commemorative coins as well as limited edition photo mints of prominent players, both active and those already in the hall of fame. There are also limited edition commemorative coin sets that celebrate important Boston Red Sox milestones, which are sure to become important and valuable collector’s items in the years to come.

Boston Red Sox Jewelry
Another category that has enjoyed an upsurge in sales is the Boston Red Sox Jewelry category. The section contains a lot of items to choose from, starting with casual wearing silver earrings made in the likeness of the Red Sox Logo, logo shaped pendants, rings, and logo embossed watches.

Boston Red Sox jewelry is best worn casually, especially if you are able to complete a game time ensemble that combines team apparel and matching jewelry. You will surely be the best dressed die hard Red Sox fan at the stadium. However, you can also wear your Red Sox themed jewelry at the office, as some of the bracelets and necklaces, and even watches are so well crafted that they complement office attire pretty well. There are watches of every make, every model, and every size – for men, women, and kids too. Boston Red Sox Home Decor
Last of the list of top sellers is Boston Red Sox home décor. There are two possible explanations for this phenomenon. It is either Boston Red Sox fans really just love their team so much that they are willing to populate their home with team-themed furniture, or second, the furniture really just looks great and are comfortable to use. Baseball picks ?innings add up to more winnings

Baseball picks ?innings add up to more winnings

Baseball picks are different from other sports picks for one big reason: No point spreads are offered. Your baseball picks either win or lose outright. For this reason, many bettors actually prefer wagering on professional baseball picks to all other sports picks.

Major League Baseball (MLB) is comprised of 30 teams, 16 in the National League and 14 in the American League. Each league is further subdivided into three divisions, East, Central and West, with five teams per division, except the NL Central with six teams and the AL West, which has only four. The regular season runs from April through September, with a brief preseason in March and league playoffs followed by the MLB World Series championship in October.

The most important aspect of MLB picks is the role that pitchers play. A good pitcher on a good team will win 18 or more games in a season and lose only a handful. If you consistently base your baseball picks on winning pitchers, you cannot lose. Team batting, weather conditions and where the game is played, all take second seat to pitching.

That said, when good pitchers are evenly matched, there are other factors you should examine in handicapping your baseball picks. Streaks are very common, both winning and losing. Umpires can make a difference, both good and bad. Field conditions are important, not only wind and rain, but the type of surface being played on. Night games suit some teams better that day games. There is a lot to study in evaluating baseball picks.

Many professional bettors say that the MLB regular season is actually three seasons in one. In April-May, the early season, underdogs tend to do well, as do pitchers. In June-July, teams and batters hit their stride. And in August-September, the favorites ignite, as winners win and losers slump. Your baseball picks should vary accordingly.

Also, consider the importance of umpires in the game. Early in the season, some allow rather wide strike zones, which favor pitchers with less control. An umpire who calls a smaller strike zone will force pitchers to yield more balls than can be hit. Not only can the size of the strike zone affect who wins, it can have a huge impact on the over-under for games, favoring the under when wide and the over when narrow. As you can see, there is more to look at in MLB picks than the players alone.

Statistically, favored teams win 60% of the time. Without a spread to contend with, you should be able to choose six winners out of every ten MLB picks, for slow by steady winnings. But the house isn’t about to let you walk away with their money so easily. Bookmakers use the money line to adjust odds in their favor. Instead of true odds, they will offer +135/-145 or +185/-210. This is their hedge against sharp betting and limits your winnings to some degree.

That’s why, instead of settling for small gains on the money line, many professional handicappers prefer to play parlays. Parlays allow you to bet on three or more baseball picks as a single wager. If all of your MLB picks succeed, your payout at least 6 to 1 (for three out of three) and perhaps as high as 320 to one (for nine out of nine). Careful selection of the right baseball picks two or three times out of every four parlay wagers, will yield more profit for less outlay than betting teams straight up.

Another aspect of baseball picks you should study is futures. Before the season starts, you can often get great odds on good teams to win their league pennants and the World Series. Look for shifts in future odds throughout the season. Sometimes good baseball picks are underrated early, while other MLB picks present an opening for profit before hitting their upward trend.

The History Of The Major League Baseball Playoffs

The History Of The Major League Baseball Playoffs

The Major League Baseball Playoffs have been around since 1969.

The Major League Baseball Playoffs were created because the American League and National League both split into eastern and western divisions. This meant that post season games between the two division champions were required to determine the pennant winner…and so the Major League Baseball Playoffs were born!

In 1994, the playoff system changed as each league was split into three divisions and a four team Major League Baseball playoff was created. However, the new MLB playoff system did not take place until 1995, as the 1994 season was never completed because of a player strike.

Since then, eight teams make the Major League Baseball playoffs. Four from both the American League and the National League.

In addition to the three division champions, the fourth team to be entered into the Major League Baseball playoffs is known as a wildcard. The wildcard team is the second place team with the best won-loss record.

After the 162 game season is over, the MLB Playoffs begin. This is usually in the first full week of October.

The first round of the MLB playoffs is the Division Series. This is a five game series that sees the top four teams in each league match up with each other.

The winners of the Division Series then advance to the seven game American League and National League Championship Series.

The winners of the ALCS and NLCS advance to the World Series.

I couldn’t imagine baseball without having the MLB Playoffs, but this was the norm before 1969. In my opinion, the playoffs give an added boost to the already exciting atmosphere that the game of baseball creates…who knows what changes may occur to the rules of the Major League Baseball Playoffs in the future…I guess only time will tell!
