Large dry flies such as streamers and grizzly saddle hackles in black, white and chartreuse are deadly for pike. Pike fishing with a fly rod requires finesse and skills which makes it very exciting.

When fishing for pike, always keep in mind that pike are aggressive hunters. They have razor sharp teeth and should be handled with care. Use gloves and pliers when unhooking lures. Fishing for pike in the late summer and early autumn will provide the best chance at catching a very large pike. This is the period when the pike eat the most to take advantage of their growth spurt right after spawning. They are also at their strongest during this period, making the fight to get them in the net even more exciting. Good luck!

More Fun Than A Barrel of Monkeys

My mother is a special person.

My mother makes friends with every person she ever meets. She is the most fun person I know. My friends love to hang out at my house because my mom is so laid back. I come home sometimes to find my friends hanging out with my mom without me even knowing! My mom throws better parties than anyone in my class!

The party my mom threw for my friend Monkey was a masterpiece.

One of my mom’s parties stands out above all the others. It was a surprise party for my friend Monkey. I have been friends with Monkey since I was about three years old, so he knows my mom really well and the two of them love to joke around together. On Monkey’s 10th birthday, he wanted to go to the zoo, so my mom took a group of us for an afternoon. Without any of us kids knowing, before we arrived at the zoo my mom arranged for the zoo officials to set up a party beside the monkey and chimp exhibit. My mom goes all out with decorations. From streamers and balloons to cakes and candy, my mom made sure they did it all.

When we first got to the zoo, before we ever made it to the primates, we noticed several oddly placed vinyl banners over the walkways that all directed us towards the monkey exhibit. There were also big bushels of bananas cautiously set up in different locations throughout the room, as well as empty barrels with monkeys crawling in and around them. It was an amazing sight!

Once we were all in the room, my mom had us gather around and pointed to a bare wall on the other side of the exhibit.
