New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to flag off the nationwide roll-out of mobile number portability on Thursday a move that will allow users to switch operators without losing their phone numbers.

“I think its a great step forward for the consumer, as it enhances choice and brings in more competition, ,” Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal Wednesday has said.

Pertinently, MNP services were first launched in Haryana in November last year.

How to do it:

Mobile Number Portability:

In this service the mobile user can switch to other service provider without changing the mobile numbers. Both prepaid and postpaid tele-users have the facility to switch to other favourable tele-operators.

How to switch:

The subscriber, who likes to avail this service, need to send a SMS from his mobile to 1900. Once the customer sends SMS, he will be receiving a unique porting code from the current service provider. Then he need to fill the application in a particular format and mention the new service provider, the customer would like to subscribe for.

How expensive:

As a transformation charge for the new operator the subscriber has to pay the amount of Rs 19.

How long will it take:

The new service provider will collect the information about the user from the current operator. A time period of seven days will be taken for the complete transfer of mobile number to the network of the new mobile operator.

Exception: The time period of transferring the MNP in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and North East service areas will be 15 days but not 7 days.

Restrictions and limitations:

The only restriction is that you can change your operator without changing your number only within your current service area. Suppose a subscriber, who is using a Mumbai number, can not switch to an operator in Bangalore. The subscriber can only change his/her operator within Mumbai only. {AIP}

Adidas drapes golf shoes in American flag

You may have noticed that adidas has been on a roll lately. A bevy of pros have worn the company’s golf shoes while marching to victory in recent months, including Tim Clarke (The Players), Justin Rose (The Memorial), Tom Lehman (Senior PGA Championship), Jason Day (HP Byron Nelson) and Se Ri Pak (Bell Micro Classic).

The venerable brand isn’t resting on its laurels, though. This week, adidas made two announcements it hopes will boost its profile and profits.

First off, the company unveiled a limited edition of its TOUR360 4.0 shoe in a “USA Flag” design, which will be worn by its stable of American pro golfers at the 110th U.S. Open – June 17-20 at Pebble Beach Golf Links – and the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales.

The shoe features a red, white and blue color scheme and an American flag on the rear quarter. Only 3,500 pairs will be available for retail purchase at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of 0.

Players scheduled to debut the TOUR360 4.0 USA Flag shoe at the U.S. Open include Sean O’Hair, Kenny Perry, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Fred Funk and Matt Bettencourt. All Yanks, of course.

“Our team of designers and engineers wanted to make a bold statement and showcase to the world the style and innovation that exists behind every adidas golf shoe,” said Dave Ortley, Senior Director of Global Footwear.

“Thanks to tremendous tour validation, the adidas golf TOUR360 4.0 is already revered as one of the most successful golf shoes in the industry and we believe this limited edition version will help to build the legendary franchise even more.”

Adidas calls the TOUR360 4.0 “the lowest shoe in golf” thanks to its THiNTech cleat and attachment system. The company says this technology is 32% lower than conventional systems, improving stability, balance, power, footwork and feedback.

In addition, adidas has expanded its adiPURE line of apparel and footwear to include women’s items. For now, the offerings are limited to shirts, pants, skorts and sweaters. No word yet if and when adiPURE golf shoes for women will be added to the mix.

1. Your date is hopelessly devoted to another. On a regular basis, he spoke to his mother more than he did to me. He talked to her every day, and then he would compare me to her. 2. Your spending habits don’t mesh, gel or match. 7. Your tastes are too different. The number-one reason for failed relationships is what I call ‘refinement incompatibility. Some of us are content to go camping, while others can’t survive outside a Ritz-Carlton hotel room. Some things are negotiable, but refinement incompatibility is not one of them, no matter how magnetically attracted you are to each other. So if your other half just isn’t up to speed on your talents or isn’t appreciative, can you say “Dating Site”?

8. Your lifestyles clash. If you’re a corporate executive pulling in six figures a year, you’ve probably figured out by now whether you can tolerate a guy or gal who earns an order of magnitude less in terms of salary. No harm, no foul: ending things now is better than leading someone along (or unexpectedly sticking your date with the tab at that expensive restaurant). Money is always an issue.

9. Your first connection fizzles. Sometimes, two people can hit off like two peas in a pod, salt n pepper. Sometimes that attraction develops as you get to know a person and sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s very different from instantly having that sizzle of chemistry when your date glances at you for the very first time.

10. Your relationship has you on edge. I believe that The One strengthens you, lifts you up and does not produce anxiety. Love lifts us up where we belong. Jammu: Flag hoisting plans by BJP on Republic Day at historic Lal Chowk in summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir has created sensation in government circles.

The state government is considering ‘stern action’ to refrain BJP activists from hoisting tricolour on Republic Day.  The government has already sought help from union government to deal with the issue, which it fears would cause serious law and order problems especially in the valley.  Coincidentally, mainstream politicians and the separatists both have strongly opposed the BJP’s move and asked it (BJP) to abstain from hoisting the tricolor.

Realizing the immense importance of situation in state, which is gradually limping to normal after the summer unrest, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah led coalition government has voiced its resentment against the BJP’s move and stated that the move would cause “serious trouble” in the Kashmir Valley.

The chief minister had earlier warned that the “BJP alone would be responsible for the consequences”. Separatists in the valley too have expressed strong opposition to the flag hoisting plan of BJP. Pertinently Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat Conference have also called for a “march to Lal Chowk” on Republic Day.

Official sources told Agence India Press, that the union government has asked the Omar led government to devise its own strategy to deal with the situation arising out of BJP’s Rashtriya Ekta Yatra that is expected to reach Srinagar on Republic Day.

“The union government will help the state in whatever way possible but the state government have to deal with the issue,” sources said.

Mohammad Yasin Malik, JKLF Chairman has threatened to foil BJP plan, but the BJP has announced that it would go ahead with its plans no matter whatever may come their way.

The state government, sources said is mulling ‘stern action’ against the BJP activists as it does not want anything to disrupt peace in the valley. BJP’s Rashtriya Ekta Yatra which started from Kolkata Wednesday. Its activists led by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Anurag Thakur want to hoist the national flag in Lal Chowk Jan 26. (AIP)

Identity Theft “Red Flag Rules” Raise Ire of AMA

No one wants to be the target of identity theft, and yet, despite consumer awareness and prevention practices, in 2008 ten million people were victimized. It seems like everyone should be overjoyed at programs to curb this threat from the creditor’s side.

Not so. Some organizations, such as the American Medical Association, feel that their members should be exempt from developing and implementing written identity theft prevention and detection measures.

Resistance from the AMA has been so strong that the deadline for putting the Red Flag Rules into practice has been delayed 3 times since it’s inception in November 2007. The new deadline is November 2009.

Banks and other credit issuing entities also object to monitoring the 26 red flags designed to prevent anyone from using another person’s identity – for gaining credit, for getting a job, for renting an apartment, or for obtaining medical care under another’s insurance policy.

Why? They feel that the new rules are “excessive and overly burdensome.” Huge banks will probably have no trouble with compliance, but smaller organizations without a large staff may have to hire 3rd party companies to carry out this function. Either way, implementing the Red Flag rules will cut into profits.

One objection from the AMA is that physicians should not be classified as “creditors,” even though they grant credit when they accept payments for care, or when they wait for payment until an insurance company responds to billings.

Lawmakers are not heeding this argument, because they are particularly concerned with “medical identity theft.” Not only can thieves obtain medical care using someone else’s insurance, the resultant medical records could be medically dangerous to the person whose identity was stolen.

Coming into compliance will definitely prevent “instant credit,” because checking some of the 26 Red Flags will require a little research. First, it will be necessary to obtain and actually read a credit report. The first red flag will be the inability to obtain that report due to a credit freeze. Next would be a fraud alert placed on the report.

From there, credit issuers will need to examine the report for inconsistencies when compared to the application for credit. Some, such as checking the borrowers social security number against his date of birth, will require further effort.
