Why are there always flags of foreign nations flying over Boston's City Hall Plaza?

I’ve noticed this for at least the last five years.

There are three flagpoles in City Hall Plaza in Boston. The U.S. flag and Massachusetts state flag are always displayed on the first two flagpoles, but every day the third flagpole changes, and it’s always a different foreign country. So far I’ve seen the flags of Lithuania, Norway, and New Zealand.

Yesterday for example, they had the flag of Haiti.

It is technically legal for the city to do this (as long as the American flag is flown higher than the other flags). It’s just a little odd, in my view, to fly the banners of foreign nations with no apparent significance or relevance.

Did you know that it is ILLEGAL to fly a foreign flag on it's own in the United States?

If you read the Flag Code, this is expressly stated.

Should we report those who fly other banners on their own, like the Mexican flag, etc?

How best to paint a flag?

Ok, for sporting purposes I have envisioned buying two polyester flags in my team’s colours (blue and gold), each 3×5 feet. My plan is to run a pole up each flag, then attack velcro so they can be joined together at the other end- in order to make a two-tone banner that can be hoisted before and after the game, and split into two flags during the game. I plan to use white paint on the royal or St.Patrick’s blue side and dark blue paint on the gold side. Banner will read together ‘WE ARE LEINSTER’ (WE and LEIN on the blue side, ARE and STER on the gold). This could be amazing, or it could be a total flop.

Advice please from people who know stuff:

What kind of paint can I use that will not crack, but will be durable and flexible enough to allow the separated flags to fly?

Would you recommend or advise against painting both sides of the flags? (advantage being that when split, someone waving the single flag could still convey the full WE ARE LEINSTER message- disadvantage would be added weight and possible loss of flexibility depending on the paint).

Will this work?

Thanks a million!

I want him to be a drill horse..>>?

I have a 5 y/o paint gelding and he has no job. He looks like a hunter jumper kind of horse, but Im not sure if I want to do that with him until he is older. He was left in a pasture for over a year with no human contact what so ever, and everything is new to him. I have been trying to despook him, but nothing seems to work with him. He is literally afraid of EVERYTHING. I had a really good drill horse a while back, and he was the only horse that didnt spook at the rodeos. I need to get him used to everything he might see at a rodeo i.e: banners, flags, loud speakers, spooky horses, etc etc. If you have any training tips I would be very happy!!! Oh! And He is absolutly terrified of fly-spray..If you have a way of getting him used to it or another alternative to spray, that would aslo make me happy! Thanks!

In the Union Flag…?

Not the Union Jack btw, it’s that if flown from a ship’s Jack flag pole.

Anyway, why is St. Patrick’s Cross (which now represents the Ulster Banner I suppose) off axis?

Most probably don’t know this, but it is entirely possible to fly the Flag the wrong way up. Find one now and look at it. Notice how the red strips of St. Patrick’s Cross are not perfectly in the middle of the white strips? The top right one should always be closer to the top.

Why is this? Why isn’t the Cross normal? If you removed St. Andrews and George’s Crosses and replaced the blue background with a white one it would look like a very crooked St. Patrick’s Cross.

So why? Why isn’t it St. Patrick’s Cross in the Union Flag as it is on it’s own?

How long do we fly our flags at half mask?

In memory of the nine firemen that died in the fire in Charleston SC, we were asked to fly our flags at half mask. My question is how long do we fly our flags at half mask?

Illegal Immigrants. Do you agree with me?

Immigrants have recently protested. Refusing to do their jobs, and refusing to buy anything American. They were waving the flags of their home countries. Some had their flags above the American flag. Some were legal American citizens, they stated that their intent was to hurt the American economy to show how important they are.

I’m pretty sure that being in America, waving another nations flag, waving that flag ABOVE the American flag, and attempting to damage the American economy is treason! Am I right?

Or at least it should be!

I believe the punishment for treason is life imprisonment.

But, this is America. Instead of doing the right thing and punishing these people,or at least deporting them(that would be too much work)
We’ll probably do the easy thing(what we always do), and just say it’s OK and make them all legal.

I love America. But the fact that this has been alowed to go on this long sometimes makes me not so proud to be an American.
Alot of people seem to pick out the comment about the flag.

Let me clarify:
I meant that they were showing alligiance to another country by waving those flags.

I’m not certain, but I do believe it is illegal to fly another nations flag ABOVE the American Flag.

And they were’nt merely talking. They were refusing to do their jobs, and refusing to buy anything American in an effort to hurt the American economy to prove a point.

Conservatives: will you sacrifice your principles and put the party first this election?

John McCain is pro gun control, pro illegal alien amnesty, started campaign finance reform, voted twice against tax cuts, wants to shut down Guantanimo and end enhanced interrogations, and is a Global Warming issue beater…Oh yeah, he refuses to drill in ANWR, but chooses to buy oil from Arab countries instead. He spoke out against the South’s right to fly the Confederate flag in 2000, then changed his mind when he saw it would lose him the state to George Bush.

However, he is the Republican nominee.

Will you grant him amnesty for the times he turned his back on you in the past?
Ohh I almost forgot, he left the mother of his children in 1980 for Cindy, whom he met in 1979 at a Navy function. She is 18 years younger then him. Does that go hand in hand with conservative family values?

To black African Americans…would you want to live in Africa?

I ask this in all seriousness. I ve learned alot over my 40 years about how slavery has hurt the blacks/African Americans for more than a century. I feel slavery was/is very wrong. But, I see many act very overly proud of there heritage and fly there respective African countrys flag and take on the black African cultural things such as wearing Dasheekis(sp.) and adapting certain rituals to their lives here in the ‘somewhat United’ States. Once again, I think slavery was/is bad and wrong. So why dont African Americans want to move back to Africa? They call it the ‘motherland’ .Do you feel that Africa is where your heart is? Maybe its just too hard to buy a house or get a paying job or go to college or get medical attention or go to the mall in all the 3rd world countries of Africa, so you stay in the land of milk and honey. Given all you know now , was slavery a necessary evil for the advancement of the black race or would you rather it never happened and still be in Africa?

How do you fly two American flags at once?

How would you fly two American flags at once? One flag having 50 stars and the other with 13 stars. Two poles?
