Do you fly your national flag where you live?

I saw this thing about how Britons don’t fly their Union Jack as much as they would like to. I’m not sure about that whole situation, but here in the States I see a lot of American flags. Where do you live and do you fly your banner/ see it around?

Question about the USS Razorback?

I know the sub was bought from Turkey, but was it really purchased for ? Also, does anyone know who bought the sub? I have heard an individual bought it with the condition that the Turkish flag also would fly along side the US flag and Arkansas state flag. I would appreciate any info. I have looked up the sub on the internet and can’t find current facts about the sub. Thanks

Why must we lower the American flag at night?

Why must we lower the American Flag at night or shine lights on it? The custom/law must have roots in some event. From the Star Spangled banner, one could assume the flag should always fly regardless of the time or events.
I would suspect that the practice came from before radios, that after a battle the country’s flag were lite up at night so that soldiers that were sperated from their side could find their way back. I did a search but was unable to find anything.

should floridians be able to buy confederate flag “specialty” tags for their automobiles?

it is a brewing controversy here in florida. currently, we have 80 "specialty" tags to include one which reads "choose life". these tags are optional and you would have to pay extra money for one. a black state representative is moving to block the sale of confederate flag plates. personally, i don’t see what is wrong with having them. i fly my confederate flag with malice toward none. it is a source of great pride to me. you may have heard the phrase "heritage, not hatred". all the folks i know who fly the stars and bars, do it with their proud heritage in mind. so, what about it? freedom of expression or more political correctness? i had hoped that we had come far enough in this country that this would not even be an issue (just like the coaches in this year’s superbowl).

Anyone know where to buy or sell authentic confederate flags flown over SC State Capitol?

My roommate has a 4′X6′ confederate flag that she is thinking about selling. She would like to get some prices and such to see if she actually wants to sell it. I looked around a bit on eBay but didn’t see anything like this.

The flag was one of the last confederate flags to fly over the South Carolina State Capitol Building in Columbia, SC before the law went into effect banning it. There is a signed certificate signed by Rep. Herb Kirsh on June 26, 2000 and the flag is presereved neatly in its box.

Does anyone know of websites or specialty stores for collectors of such memoribilia to get ideas on how much something like this is worth ? Thanks!

Do you feel it is appropriate to fly a flag of another county on private property?

I am talking about private property, not government owned. And I am talking about people who live in one country, but fly the flag of their home country without also flying the flag of the country they are living in. I also am not including anything related to the war or military personel flying their home country flag wherever they are stationed. I mean going to another country, buying a home and ONLY flying your home country flag. I personally live in the US and my US flag got ruined in a sever storm. Until I replace my US flag, I will not fly my State flag because I find it disrespectful to my country. I am very proud of my state, but feel that it would be inappropriate to fly the state without the country. Yet, everywhere I go it seems that people have another country’s flag in their yard while not having one representing the country they are in or even the state. They are obviously making their living here. I Do I have to much pride in my country? Am I being nit-picky?
I don’t have a problem with them flying their home country flag, but think they should also fly the flag of the country they are living and making a living in.
TO MELINDA: I was asking an opinion and I thank you for yours, but I do not appreciate snide little remarks. BTW, my hobbies do not include needlepoint. They include embroidery, sewing, reading. Oh yeah, marksmanship too.

Want to buy a CA state flag!?

I have been searching the internet for an hour now, and decided to post this question here. I am looking buy a large fabric California state flag. That’s it! I find the nylon ones cheap and tacky, and am looking at buying a high-quality fabric flag, but it seems that no one makes them! What flag do they fly over the state capitals? Nylon? That seems tacky. Anyway, can anyone out there tell me where to buy a large, fabric/cotton, heavy duty California state flag? Thanks!
Also, I want one for display inside the house, in the den, not for outside use. Thanks for the help. I’d hate to have one custom made, thinking of the price…
