What Health Care providers need to know

What Health Care providers need to know

Yes, if you do not know there are New Requirements for Fighting with Identity Theft that Health Care Providers must know about “Red Flag Rules”.

“The Red Flags Rule”, a law the FTC will begin to enforce on August 1, 2009, requires certain businesses and organizations — including many doctors’ offices, hospitals, and other health care providers — to develop a written program to spot the warning signs — or “red flags” — of identity theft” as stated by the FTC.

Basically when a person seeks health care services using someone else’s name and insurance info, is what is called identity theft.

“Every health care organization and practice must review its billing and payment procedures to determine if it’s covered by the Red Flags Rule. Whether the law applies to you isn’t based on your status as a health care provider, but rather on whether your activities fall within the law’s definition of two key terms: “creditor” and “covered account.”

Health care providers may be subject to the Rule if they are “creditors.” Although you may not think of your practice as a “creditor” in the traditional sense of a bank or mortgage company, the law defines “creditor” to include any entity that regularly defers payments for goods or services or arranges for the extension of credit. For example, you are a creditor if you regularly bill patients after the completion of services, including for the remainder of medical fees not reimbursed by insurance. Similarly, health care providers who regularly allow patients to set up payment plans after services have been rendered are creditors under the Rule. Health care providers are also considered creditors if they help patients get credit from other sources — for example, if they distribute and process applications for credit accounts tailored to the health care industry.

On the other hand, health care providers who require payment before or at the time of service are not creditors under the Red Flags Rule. In addition, if you accept only direct payment from Medicaid or similar programs where the patient has no responsibility for the fees, you are not a creditor. Simply accepting credit cards as a form of payment at the time of service does not make you a creditor under the Rule.

The second key term — “covered account” — is defined as a consumer account that allows multiple payments or transactions or any other account with a reasonably foreseeable risk of identity theft. The accounts you open and maintain for your patients are generally “covered accounts” under the law. If your organization or practice is a “creditor” with “covered accounts,” you must develop a written Identity Theft Prevention Program to identify and address the red flags that could indicate identity theft in those accounts.” as stated by the FTC.

What to look for:

“Suspicious documents. Has a new patient given you identification documents that look altered or forged? Is the photograph or physical description on the ID inconsistent with what the patient looks like? Did the patient give you other documentation inconsistent with what he or she has told you — for example, an inconsistent date of birth or a chronic medical condition not mentioned elsewhere? Under the Red Flags Rule, you may need to ask for additional information from that patient. Suspicious personally identifying information. If a patient gives you information that doesn’t match what you’ve learned from other sources, it may be a red flag of identity theft. For example, if the patient gives you a home address, birth date, or Social Security number that doesn’t match information on file or from the insurer, fraud could be afoot. Suspicious activities. Is mail returned repeatedly as undeliverable, even though the patient still shows up for appointments? Does a patient complain about receiving a bill for a service that he or she didn’t get? Is there an inconsistency between a physical examination or medical history reported by the patient and the treatment records? These questionable activities may be red flags of identity theft. Notices from victims of identity theft, law enforcement authorities, insurers, or others suggesting possible identity theft. Have you received word about identity theft from another source? Cooperation is key. Heed warnings from others that identity theft may be ongoing.” as stated by the FTC.

Something that your practice manager should keep in mind.

How Do You Get the Attention of People You Don’t Know?

How Do You Get the Attention of People You Don’t Know?

If you were trying to catch the attention of a group of people whom you had no affinity with, how would you do it, without blowing a hole in your financial pocket?

It’s an interesting question.

A question that not a lot of business owners pay attention to.

Tell me, would you write to a person, whom you already had the first name for, as…

“Dear Sir/Madam”… ?

No, didn’t think you would. But, that’s exactly what the big sprawling corporations and businesses are doing.

Sad and shameful.

Losing potential customers… in a lightening flash!

So, exactly how would you flag down the people you’re trying to reach?

Let’s say you wanted to reach local residents in a certain geographic area to tell them about your new Dry Cleaning establishment and you didn’t have their full names, what could we come up as an opening to get our prospects leaning in towards our written piece?

(This is an on the assumption that we haven’t rented their names from a local list broker)

Okay, what if we start with…”Dear Occupant”?

Well, I don’t know what you feel, but that sounds like a letter coming from the local Council office or a big blanket mailing done by a non-too savvy enterprise.

How about we go with simply… “Dear Resident”?

Okay, that’s not bad. It has a little warmth to it. But, I think we can do better.

What if we try… “Dear Resident of Hampstead”

Alright, now we’re moving in the direction we want. It has a little warmth, and it narrows down the target area, making the recipient feel part of a ‘community’.

Okay, it’s looking good. But, what if we try one last shot and go with … “Dear Hampstead Resident Looking for A Great Deal on Their Dry cleaning!”?

BINGO!

Now that’ll get the attention of your recipient, won’t it?

Whether they take you up on your offer (and you’d better have a great offer, or the mailing would be really wasted) as soon as they get your piece, or whether they tuck it away in that special place, waiting for that time when it’ll be needed, then you would have done your job.

(For the savvy and initiated, a second and third mailing to that sane target group, each one referring to the letter before, will see a bigger response than if only using a one shot mail approach)

So, what novel and warm ways can you come up with to address customers or prospects in your mailings and communications?

Practicing this easy-to-do-tactic can bring multiple rewards. If you’re going to write a message, you may as well make it the best you can. Right?

Know the history of Macys

Know the history of Macys

Many new things will come in the market they will have their day, take a bow and vanish faster than the memory. Old things that have lasted long have rode the tides as they say will stand alone and stand far but they will have their own charm. Soon they become the part of history and their strength to withstand becomes their identity. One such establishment is the Macys.

Macys is one of the oldest establishments in the US. It was started as an exclusive retail store more than one hundred and fifty years back. It has seen changes in itself and outside world for a long time. It has been passed on from one owner to the other over the generations but has maintained its exclusivity. It has shifted in its locations as well and expanded in the locations for a long time.

The real surprise came in 1929, when the three retailers came together and joined hands came under the roof of macys. The retailers were mighty and exclusive in their own right. They also were competitors of each other. They came together only to give more space, service and exclusivity to the customers. They boast for the most exclusive things in fashion, jeweler, furniture and accessories. They claim the china ware and Ming that even china would not boast of!

Macys has stores across US in New York, which is their first store, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Chicago. They have only exclusive things in their stores which they make available for the not so elite. The exclusivity is not just in their goods but also in their establishments and address. They have had stores in the most fashionable and the most talked about streets. They have stores in Times Square where the business and fashion stops to take a look.

Macys has its trademark hoarding of a shopping bag displayed in the Times Square. It has a deal for several years to stand there. It has a trademark star on its logo. The star is the tattoo that the first owner had on his arm as he worked in a shipping company. The star goes well with the stars of the US national flag.

The Macys store buildings are always an architectural wonder. The buildings are old with Victorian style. The arches and lobbies are their strong points. Though Macys have come up in new malls today, they still stand apart.

Macys has been a part of the US for a long time now. The Macys thanks giving parade is very famous. There are many visitors to witness the parade. Macys also sponsors the Fourth of July fireworks show for the government of US. It also has small establishments that take care of the charities that it is associated with.

Macys has been in the news for wrong reasons as well. The separate jurisdiction that Macys had for their shoplifters was in news. The punishments were decided by the Macys. It came to an end with Macys having to follow the US jurisdiction.

There will be newer store that will be added to the US market arena but Macys will always be lining the US market horizons.

Unhappy Marriages: How to Know When You Are Heading Towards Breakup

Unhappy Marriages: How to Know When You Are Heading Towards Breakup

There are lots of signs and symptoms and side effects of unhappy marriages and it is really easy to identify a marriage on the rocks from afar. Usually unhappy relationships are the butt of society’s ridicule though you shall have quite a few concerned friends clucking over you in mock sympathy.

Instead of being the fodder of gossip mills don’t you think you should familiarize yourself with these signs and make a conscious effort to turn your marriage into a happy and successful relationship that gives both partners a lot of joy and satisfaction?

A troubled marriage can be where one spouse feels better and more comfortable and acts in a confident manner, as if he/she is in control when the other spouse is absent. For e.g. when a wife is going around with her friends or is at office, she feels much more normal and at peace than what she will feel with her husband around.

You may also be trapped in unhappy marriages when you feel that you are doing your duty towards your spouse, but you are not receiving the same treatment or due respect or recognition for your efforts from your partner’s side.

Sometimes one partner is reduced to a door mat and lets his/her spouse trample over him. You are treated disrespectfully and it is partly your fault because you are allowing this to happen. You are perhaps also aware of what is going on and there is a lot of anger and hurt simmering inside you, but there is no way you can reverse the situation.

You are so scared of your partner and afraid of upsetting him that you treat yourself like trash, are always careful about the words that you utter and have degenerated into tip toeing around your husband.

Another sign of an unhappy marriage is when everybody complains to you about your husband and you fight tooth and nail to defend him from attacks. You often tend to hide many negative things, opinions and feedbacks from your partner for fear of upsetting him.

When you get married to your partner, you have the full right to your partner’s affection and love. You shouldn’t have to convince your partner to love you or show affection towards you. It should come naturally of its own accord.

When you have entered into marriage and perhaps given up your job (mostly applies to women), there are times when you shall have to ask your husband for pocket money and for things to run the household. You shouldn’t feel hesitant to ask for these very necessary things. If you do, it means that maybe your marriage isn’t perfect or ideal.

Sometimes it is seen that you feel more loving and affectionate, kind and caring towards your partner if the latter is sad or broken or in plain bad mood. During these times, the other spouse feels that the latter can be won over by affection and the latter is more humane and vulnerable. These are all signs of unhappy marriages.

Top 5 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Must Know

Top 5 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Must Know

I have compiled a list of the most import things every World of Warcraft player should know and follow. I have broken it down and listed what I think is the top five.

1.) Read your Quest Journal

Now we hate to snipe here, people, but the “L” key on your keyboard opens up your Quest Journal. This handy little item contains literally all the information you need to solve whatever quest your given. Check it early and check it often because if you’re cluttering up the “General” chat channel asking “Where’s the Wailing Caverns?” 47 times not only will you learn all sorts of new Azerothian insults, but when you eventually find the place, it’s not going to win you any friends when you start looking for a group to explore with. Your Quest Journal has directions so precise they make MapQuest look vague. So to avoid this situation just read your Quest Journal.

2.) The City Guards are your friends – use them well.

This is kind of an adjunct to the whole “Read your Quest Journal” thing, but the other thing that clogs up the general chat channels is people asking for directions in the hub cities. Fortunately Blizzard has come up with a simple solution – just ask a city guard! They’ll give you directions to everything in the city and even provide you with a little flag in your mini-map! You know, the employment situation in Azeroth must be pretty bad when you consider that most of these guards are level 75 or so and can easily wipe out virtually every monster in the game and they’re taking the time out of their busy schedule to help you. The least you can do use their services. I don’t even think they get paid!

3.) Every trade skill has a complement.

Players can only learn two “professional” trade skills (Fishing, Cooking, First Aid and a few others). Be aware that with the exception of Enchanting and Tailoring, every trade skill has a “gathering” skill and a “crafting” skill. Blacksmithing, for example, requires raw materials that can only be retrieved by Mining. Be sure you select the appropriate skill; otherwise you will end up buying raw materials at auction or trying to trade your raw materials for finished goods.

4.) The Num Lock key is your auto run.

This should be obvious, but you’d be surprised how many players forget to use their auto run. Auto run is your best friend. During long runs you can be checking your quest log, your inventory, or chatting with friends. Use it!

5.) Control your Pets!

This, of course, only applies to pet classes (Warlocks and Hunters), but if we had a gold piece for every Warlock and Hunter who left his pet on “Aggressive” we would all have a lot of gold pieces. Your pets are tools. They’re used for very specific purposes. Putting them on Aggressive lets them attack indiscriminately and can draw a lot more monster attention than your group is ready to deal with. All too often a pet on the loose means death for the group and a long, boring corpse run.

Facts Consumers Should Know Before Using A Credit Repair Company

Facts Consumers Should Know Before Using A Credit Repair Company

People with credit problems often ask me when it comes to improving their credit score whether they should hire a credit repair company or do it themselves? Unfortunately, there is no simple or universal answer to this question. However, I will shed some light on the subject if you’re in need of a little enlightenment.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) “Everything a credit repair clinic can do for you legally you can do for yourself at little or no cost”. While I agree with the FTC I also understand some consumers do not have the time, patience (or knowledge) to do the work themselves and the thought of “drive-thru-we-do-it-all-for-you-credit-repair” becomes very appealing. After all, everything a mobile oil change service can do for me I can also do myself at little or no cost (but you won’t find me changing the oil in my car this weekend!).

Although some things are better done yourself, only you can determine if doing your own credit restoration work will be one of them. This is why understanding both the advantages and limitations of a credit repair company and the structure from which it operates are VERY important.

REFERENCES: Any legitimate company or individual doing credit restoration work for consumers will be able to provide you with at least half a dozen references. If the company or person is local you should be able to call these references. This is without question the most important point of consideration when hiring a professional to do the work for you.

If possible, I suggest you ask friends, family, relatives and professional contacts if they know of someone who does credit restoration work as a side business. By far the highest percentage of successful stories I hear from consumers are those which come from those who found a credit consultant via personal referral. I cannot stress this enough. It’s the difference between going on a vacation with a close friend instead of a stranger.

CONTRACT: Unlike painting a house or putting in a driveway, credit restoration work (and results) are extremely broad. Therefore, the use of a contract is imperative. Most likely your credit challenges didn’t occur overnight and they won’t be improved overnight either. A good contract protects you as well as the service provider. The contract should be easy to understand without an Attorney and spell out the actual services which will be rendered as well as the service providers’ limitations (i.e. they cannot guarantee the removal of any one particular item but can guarantee an overall increase in score overtime).

MONTHLY FEE: One of the most critical elements which affects “how” a credit restoration company operates is determined by its’ payment structure. One of the most common payment structures of large companies or law firms doing credit restoration is that of the monthly “auto-debit” fee. In this structure the consumer usually pays to up front and then a monthly fee of to per month. While there is an advantage to this method (affordability) with it comes many disadvantages.

1.) The first disadvantage this structure creates is that it gives the company absolutely no incentive to work quickly or aggressively on behalf of the consumer. In fact, the opposite is true. The longer they take the longer they will continue to collect their monthly fee! In most cases this structure leads to slow results over a very long period of time. Looking at it logically, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

2.) The other challenge within this structure is the actual amount of time, effort and resources which a company or law firm can reasonably allocate on a consumer’s behalf. Remember, any large business has a tremendous amount of overhead which quickly chews up most of that monthly fee. Out of that to there are monthly expenses including but not limited to: Advertising, Office Rent and Utilities, Employee Payroll and Taxes, Health Insurance, Phone Service, Office Supplies, Refunds, Computer Maintenance and Programming, Website Administration, Office Supplies and let’s not forget postage for mailing letters to creditors, collection agencies and credit bureaus. A much simpler way to think of this is by imagining if you had a client paying you a month; how much work would you be willing to do?

3.) One of the biggest challenges credit repair companies charging low monthly fees run into is being forced to rely on the use of Automated “Boiler Plate” Dispute and Correspondence Letters. Boiler Plate Letters are simple form letters which are used for ALL consumers (one format fits all). Once set up in a computer program with the consumers’ information they are “shot out” automatically on behalf of the consumers needs (i.e. disputing a late pay, charge-off or judgment etc).

The problem here is that when a credit repair company has thousands of clients they are shooting these form letters out for, the creditors, collection agencies and credit bureaus can take notice of these letters being used over and over and discover your correspondence is coming from a third party (i.e. credit repair company or law firm) and in some cases ignore it or (worse yet) mark the dispute frivolous and flag your credit report. I spoke with a man recently who was on the inside of a large credit repair company who informed me they had an archive of over 10,000 boiler plate letters on file to avoid this problem. Of course, they charged customers by the month.

NON-DISCLOSURE OF METHODS: One of the most troubling issues with 95% of large credit repair firms (especially law firms) is their non-disclosure of dispute tactics and methods. As a consumer it is vital that you are made aware of the methods they are using in dealing with your creditors, collections and the credit bureaus. If the organization or law firm violates laws or makes errors (I have witnessed both) you could be held liable for their negligence. In addition, this can actually make your credit worse and create problems which are very difficult to clean up. Anyone doing credit restoration for you should disclose “what” they are doing since you are paying for a service. If they won’t, you better run the other way as they could be pouring gas on a blazing camp fire.

LOCATED IN HOME STATE: This is one of the most overlooked keys to successful third party credit restoration which consumers miss. It is absolutely vital when having someone else do your credit restoration work for you that they operate within your home state. Here’s why: if a credit repair company or law firm mails dispute letters or correspondence on your behalf from another state, that mail will be postmarked from that state. If the credit bureau catches this they can (and in many cases will) mark the dispute as frivolous and flag your credit file.

It is known that many Credit Repair Companies and Law Firms will resort to or create some kind of method to get around this in order to get disputes postmarked from the consumers’ home state (potentially more non-disclosure). For example. If they are in NY and you are in CA they will first have to mail your dispute letters inside an envelope from NY to CA. Once in CA someone opens the envelope and then mails your dispute letters from CA so they postmarked from your home state. I am not an expert on postal regulations but had a postal employee tell me the concept sounded extremely shady at best.

CUSTOMIZATION: It’s for this reason that some of the most advanced forms of credit restoration are done completely customized for the client and even (in many cases) by hand. The best credit restoration companies I’ve seen are usually run by one person or a small number of people and are extremely customized for each client. The is the most effective but with effectiveness comes cost. Every one of these services I have seen charges a very large upfront fee and works entirely off of referrals. This type of service is simply impossible to perform for or even a month.

Unfortunately, if you are unable to find someone in your area (preferably an individual) by way of referral through a friend, relative or professional contact, then I recommend you take matters into your own hands and do it yourself. I realize most consumers do not want to hear this but the good news is that it will almost always turn out to be the highest paid work you will ever do in your life. How high? How does 0 to 00 an hour sound? I understand it’s a bold claim but not one I am unable to back up.

If you’re ever going to finance a first or second home (which everyone eventually should for the tax breaks) the difference between good credit and poor credit will affect your interest rate. If you secure a 0,000 mortgage on a 30 year term and your interest rate is only 2% lower because of a high credit score, that 2% will save you ,934.11 over the course of the loan (just because you had better credit). Take that ,934.11 and divide it by the 30 to 50 hours you may spend working on your credit situation and you’ll quickly realize credit restoration when done properly does not cost – it pays!

Can You Get Back Together With Your Ex? You Can If You Know How To

Can You Get Back Together With Your Ex? You Can If You Know How To

The pain of a break up can be unbearable. I know how you feel. I myself have been dumped too. Yes, it is really more painful when you are the one dumped by your ex. The first thing you have to do before anything else is to get your emotions in check. Calm down and be cool as much as you can. When you are calm, you can think better and plan out your course of action. To calm down you have to remove your ex from your mind for a while. Why not go out with your friends or family. Have a little fun and enjoy your free time for a while. I bet that your friends and family will help you have fun and forget for a while.

The most important thing that you have to do next is to make yourself ALLURING and DESIRABLE. When you want to be alluring and desirable you have to take care of yourself. Sometimes in a fit of depression, we tend to lose ourselves from the sorrow. Sometimes we are so sad we forget to shower, put on fashionable clothes, and be generally hygienic. You have to pamper yourself even more during a break up. Love yourself even more if you were dumped. You are not some door mat for anyone. You are an amazing and lovable human being. Take care of yourself because that is attractive. Having a high self-esteem is sexy and magnetic. Be strong and project strength and maturity in public. That will draw your ex to you.

Should I Know Who Or What My Spouse Is Texting?

Should I Know Who Or What My Spouse Is Texting?

I get a lot of correspondence from people who are concerned that their spouse’s excessive texting might mean that spouse is cheating. People often ask things like “should I know who my spouse is texting?” Or “if my spouse is secretive about their texting or deleting their messages, does this mean they might be cheating?”

And people who have never worried about their loved one cheating on them may find such concerns to be silly or to be an intrusion on someone else’s privacy. But to be fair, I have to say that the people who are asking this question are often also seeing other suspicious behavior that is contributing to their concern about the texts. In other words, it’s not as if everything else is fine and great and the relationship while the suspicious person is just looking for things that aren’t there.

Often, the person asking this question has noticed other things or behaviors and the messages are just one additional thing that makes them feel uneasy. People often ask me how they should proceed with these types of suspicions. They often ask if they’re right to be concerned about this and if they should confront their spouse or demand to know who they are texting. The answer depends upon the relationship, past behavior, how much texting is really going on and how excessive it is, and the likelihood of getting an honest or accurate answer.

Some people have the kind of relationship where they don’t feel at all odd about asking about the messages or even asking to see them. And, if your spouse is willing to hand over their phone and you aren’t seeing anything else to cause you concern, then there’s nothing wrong with this.

In fact, sometimes this type of messaging is innocent. Women in particular enjoy texting other women friends, although men usually aren’t frequent texters with other men. However, in this situation, a woman will usually be quite willing to share this with you and not be secretive about it. And you generally won’t get a weird vibe when your spouse is messaging friends or family members about things that are innocent.

But unfortunately, this isn’t often what happens. Usually, the faithful but suspicious spouse will sense that there is something wrong with what they are seeing and will ask about the messages. Quite often, the texting spouse will become very defensive and perhaps even angry. Or, the messages have been (or will quickly be) deleted and the cheating spouse is much more careful from that day forward. (Frankly, when your spouse tells you that their texting is none of your business or gets defensive, this is often a red flag.)

My answer to the question as to whether spouses should know what or who the other is texting would be “sometimes.” In a healthy and open relationship, there often isn’t really a reason to ask this question or to be suspicious. Messaging is popular and common and many people find it a convenient way to communicate. And, it’s usually somewhat easy to tell if you have a reason to be concerned.

With that said, it’s also a very common and popular way for people to communicate with the person that they are cheating with. So being concerned about this is understandable, especially if you have other concerns in other areas. There are tools that will allow you to see who the texts are coming from or going to (and sometimes even what they say) but honestly, it’s usually preferable to have an honest conversation with your spouse is this is possible.

I was in this same situation a short time ago. My heart knew that the texts meant he was cheating, but my head didn’t want to acknowledge it. I told myself that I was just seeing things that weren’t there. But deep down, I knew I was kidding myself. After thinking on it for a long time, I decided that I really wanted to know the truth, no matter what that truth was. I learned how to get concrete information that he thought that he had hid and erased. And I found exactly what I feared. You can read a very personal story at http://catch-the-cheating.com/

Credit Repair And Inquiries – What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You

Credit Repair And Inquiries – What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You

So, applying for a loan can actually hurt my credit score?

Actually, while this can be true, it is not as bad as people make it seem. So many people are worried about credit inquiries that they are too afraid to shop around for a loan when making a decision as important as choosing a mortgage company or a finance company for a new car.

The way this sounds when your friends and relatives are giving you all the advice they know is that every time you apply for a loan someone deducts 100 points from your credit score.

It is true that credit inquiries can reflect negatively. It is also true that they can lower your score, but you shouldn’t see major decreases in your credit score from a single inquiry.

Applying for too much credit in a short amount of time can make you appear desperate for money, which throws up a huge red flag to creditors. It raises your risk for default and bankruptcy. This is why they track inquiries in the first place.

Nobody can really say what the magic number is for how many inquiries are acceptable before your score is significantly impacted, but applying for a needed credit card, cell phone, etc. is not going to make a considerable impact unless you are applying for credit cards all over town.

The best way to avoid too many inquiries is to be careful to only allow your credit to be run by someone you are serious about getting a loan through. Try to do a little research on credit cards before applying so that you can feel confident about doing business with the particular company you allow to run your credit.

So, now you’re probably thinking, “How can I shop around and make sure I’m getting the best deal on my mortgage without looking like I’m trying to get loans from 40 different banks??”

In times past, you couldn’t. However, after receiving countless complaints from consumers, the scoring model has been slightly changed. The exceptions are only in effect for car loans and home loans because these are considered major purchases for which consumers want to be certain they are getting the best loan.

Here are the exceptions:
*An inquiry buffer is in place and all mortgage and auto inquiries within 30 days from scoring are ignored.
*All mortgage and auto inquiries in a 14 day period count as 1 inquiry.

The only catch here is that the mortgage and auto companies have to report the inquiries as mortgages and autos. Since this information is hidden in the databases and not openly listed on the credit report, there is no way to tell if they are reporting properly or not.

Sometimes it is best to be cautious even when applying for a car or a mortgage. This would be if your credit score is very borderline and your lender is helping you with credit clean-up. You could cause yourself some serious problems in this case by adding more credit inquiries.

Since there’s no way to tell if the lender is properly reporting their inquiries, I would say it is best to err on the side of caution if you have a low score. It’s better to have only 1 loan choice and still purchase your dream home, then to have several choices, but risk your score dropping to a level where you can no longer be approved for that dream home. You can always work raising your score and refinance your loan later.

Since the scoring model has only been changed for mortgages and auto loans, it is important to be very selective about having your credit run for other loans.

Compare general interest rate information among the companies you are interested in before applying. Apply for the ones who seem to have the lowest rates. Then you can feel confident in having only 1 lender run your credit for the financing you need.

However, don’t be afraid to apply for credit you need. As I stated earlier, the impact to your score will be minimal as long as you are careful not to apply for every credit card that sends you an ad!

The key is to not appear desperate by showing too many inquiries. But, in the course of a normal existence a person is going to need to apply for some credit from time to time.
