Is this the worst ever signing of the national anthem at the Superbowl?

The Star Spangled Banner
by Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Video: Christina Aguilera goofs up the national anthem

Gosh, it was only the Superbowl. She had more important things to do than, you know, practice.

Has the younger generation really come to this?

Remember when TV used to sign off for the night and "go to sleep"?

I remember when I was a kid and my mom and dad would go out on a Saturday night and leave my sister to baby sit. If we were good she used to let us stay up late and we’d watch "Night at the Bijou"
They would play a cartoon and then a movie. I remember House on Haunted Hill and The Mummy how scary they seemed then. When the movie was over (about 12 or 1 am) they would play "The star spangled banner" On the screen there would be the American Flag blowing in the wind. We would stand and put our hands over our heart and sing along. Then all you would hear is boooooooop and on the screen all there would be was a circle with a number or some channels would have a profile of an Indian chief.
Such fun remembering. How about you?

Isn't this awesome?

From a Chaplain in Iraq.

"I recently attended a showing of "Superman 3" here at LSA Anaconda. We
have a large auditorium we use for movies as well as memorial services
and other large gatherings. As is the custom back in the States, we
stood and snapped to attention when the National Anthem began before the
main feature. All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the
way through the National Anthem the music stopped.

Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back
in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few
rude comments, and everyone would sit down and call for a movie. Of
course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first
place.

Here, the 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed
forward. The music started again. The Soldiers continued to quietly
stand at attention. And again, at the same point, the music stopped.
What would you expect to happen? Even here I would imagine laughter as
everyone sat down and expected the movie to start.

Here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every Soldier stood at attention.
Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was
filled with the voices of a thousand Soldiers

‘And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof
through the night that our flag was still there.
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, o’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave?’

It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in Iraq. I wanted you
to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you here.

What does the USA national anthem mean to most Italians?

Every morning in school American kids are forced to say this:
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All."

"I giurare fedeltà alla bandiera del Stati Uniti d’America. E alla Repubblica che essa rappresenta, una nazione, sotto Dio, indivisibile, con libertà e giustizia per tutti."

And then sing this

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Did this translate correctly in Italian?
I just want Italians to see the word in their native tongue and see if they culturally relate to it…the cultural translation goes beyond language
Like for Italians there could be symbolism that the rockets would be a reflection of 1911 when they defeated the Ottoman Turks, or the brave revolutions in the kingdoms in 1820-1850 (and how they were like the independent city-states of the middle ages….and the flag could be the Gondola….and the FREEDOM is 10 June, 1946…..and more recently…..what you say when you taste really good Pizza Margarita
If the Italians adapted the USA national anthem…it would have to be divided into variations of the theme to reflect the sentiment of each of the city states and regions of Italy! And we’d make a verse about the Kingdom of Sardinia.
Edit: How is the 4th verse in contradiction with the 3rd?

Can you summarize what is happening in the us national anthem?

O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro’ the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation;
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
