Is this the worst ever signing of the national anthem at the Superbowl?

The Star Spangled Banner
by Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Video: Christina Aguilera goofs up the national anthem

Gosh, it was only the Superbowl. She had more important things to do than, you know, practice.

Has the younger generation really come to this?

Please listen and tell me if I'm a good singer…?

You may have to turn your volume up…here goes (please don’t laugh)

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Isn't the Anthem of the Soviet Union more complex and better?

I will list both texts of both anthems and where to listen to them. You need to have windows media player for the first one.

1977 Version (Near the American Hippy Out-Break) United forever in friendship and labor, our mighty republics will ever endure. The great Soviet Union will live through the ages, the dream of a people their fortress secure. Long live our Soviet motherland, built by the people’s mighty hand. Long live our people united and free! Strong in our friendship tried by far. Long lay our crimson flag inspire. Shining in glory for all men to see. Today’s dark and stormy but big Lenin lead us, our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom of all. And Stalin our leader, with faith in the people, inspired us to build our land that we love. Long live our Soviet motherland, built by the people’s mighty hand. Long live our people united and free! Strong in our friendship tried by far. Long lay our crimson flag inspire. Shining in glory for all men to see. We fought for the future, destroyed the invader, and brought to our homeland the laurels of fame! A glory will live in the memory of nations, and all generations will Honor our days. God it hurts my brain how some idiot wrote about a flag… Anyways go to www.youtube.com and search star spangled banner if you want to hear it because I don’t…
The Star Spangled Banner is practically a poem about a flag and has book like discriptions that a 5 year old could write. I will write a small snipit of a story right here. As the soldier drew in his last breath he whispered in a soft tone of voice, "I will find you god, and I will make you suffer with pain beyond your wildest dreams for terrorizing my life" the soldier died and plummeted to the dirt at the speed of a bullet. He lays silently while his flesh rots away and his bones are nawed by wild wolves. After his skull is cracked the marrow within pours all over his body, splashing over his gun and finally draining into his silver cantine.
Old writers sucked at songs.
Free. I am sorry but most of the time if I am associated with non-slavs I get a bad reputation. People will call white people hics and hics are originated in america. If they call me a gypsy I will kill a gypsy and mail it’s head to their door to prove it otherwise. Its all about rep.

This is how it should look and sound, don't you agree?

Oh, say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,

Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

There’s NOTHING better then the original!!!

What's the meaning behind the Star Spangled Banner?

In short [well, it's pretty long] what does each line mean? I’m getting stuck on the second and third verses.

——————————————-

O! say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming.
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: ‘In God is our trust.’
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
THANKS EVERYONE for the answers so far, just wanted to add that I’m looking for a direct explanation of "Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution."
